If you are familiar with 12 step programs, the key to success in those programs is 1. Going to the meetings, showing up and participating, and 2. Acknowledging a higher power is necessary to be able to beat addiction. Food is an addiction...the foods we crave drive the same chemicals in our brains as opiates and stimulants. We have tried to quit with our own will so many times and failed. So now we need to just stop and admit we cannot do it alone. It is hard if you did not grow up with church, or a particular faith to find out what is a higher power to you. I think it is possible to see there could be something more powerful than us...some energy in the Universe created the earth, the stars, energy itself. I have found great inspiration in the book, Eat It Up by Connie Stapleton (thanks Gina): www.amazon.com/gp/product/0692500634/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0692500634&linkCode=as2&tag=ralpfiennetw-20&linkId=4f0620d0d6104d017e7bc8422188381cHer section on spirituality is excellent, and genuinely speaks to my heart about letting go and letting God. Another great book with a spiritual approach is Tricia Nealson's,Heal Your Hunger, www.amazon.com/gp/product/1521101108/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1521101108&linkCode=as2&tag=ralpfiennetw-20&linkId=ba0a975995f341f4c118391769b3a4d5Let me know what you think of these books and how you are incorporating spirituality in your weight loss and eating plans.
